Course Description

The S3 Elective PE course offers pupils a progression from S1-3 BGE PE and acts as a gateway into National 4,5, Higher and Advanced Higher PE courses. In addition it can act as a gateway into our NPA Achieving Excellence in Sport Level 6 course in S4.

The course has both Practical and Theoretical elements and therefore pupils who elect to take this course are expected to have the drive and ambition to further improve and develop their practical performance through skills practices and theory sessions.

The activities included in the S3 Elective PE Course tend to be badminton, basketball, gymnastics, football, rugby, swimming and volleyball, although this can vary.

This course is most suitable for pupils who have regularly participated in all activities throughout S1 and S2 Core PE.

The main aims of the Course are to enable the learner to:

  • 1. Develop the ability to perform an extensive range of movement and performance Skills

  • 2. Understand the mental, emotional, social and physical factors that impact on performance in physical activities

  • 3. Develop approaches to enhance performance 4. Monitor, record and evaluate performance development
