The School College Partnership (SCP) allows students all across Edinburgh to attend Edinburgh college courses part-time as a subject in their timetable. This allows you to access a unique learning environment which will set you apart from other applicants and let you study courses your school can’t offer like Construction, Criminology and Legal Services.
How does it Work?
The SCP programme has part-time courses for S4 - S6 pupils alongside Foundation Apprenticeships for S5 pupils. These part-time SCP courses act like a column in your course choices and take place for 2 afternoons a week, most commonly on Tuesdays and Thursday’s between 1:30pm and 4:00pm. Check the Edinburgh College Website for the specific times and dates of your chosen course. Foundation Apprenticeships on the other hand are a 2 year course which gives you the chance to try out a career while still in school and is equivalent to an SCQF Level 6 (Higher).
How do I apply?
Applications for SCP courses will be open for 6 weeks from the [DATE]. Courses available can vary from year to year so make sure to check on the Edinburgh College website here. You should consult your PSE teacher before applying for a College Course and they can provide support with the application process. You can consult the SCP video guide on specifics about how to navigate the college website and apply to your course. You can apply to as many courses as you like but you can only choose one to attend as they all take place at the same time. Some courses can be very competitive like Construction so it is recommended you get your application in early, spaces are first come first serve. You can click below to browse the current courses on offer.
After the 6 week application window has closed, make sure to regularly check your email you used to apply for the course. You don’t want to miss an email as it could be the difference between getting into a course and being unsuccessful. You will receive one of 3 responses to your application:
Unconditional
You have been accepted into the course and are guaranteed a place in the course with no conditions.
Conditional
Your place in the course is based on you achieving further qualifications before you are accepted or you have to complete an assigned task. These conditions will be detailed in your email from the college.
Unsuccesful
Your application to the course has been unsuccessful and you have not been accepted. You may still be able to get into the course by contacting the college helpline or get into alternative courses of a similar nature.
Make sure to CONFIRM the acceptance to your course to secure your place, if you have an unconditional or conditional offer the link to do this should be contained within the email.
